Soccer

It appears as though this week we will be wrapping up this soccer season. It has proven to be fun, exhausting and a juggling experience. 7 of the 8 children played this season, they have all learned new skills and had fun doing it. Most of the kids want to give it a go in the fall, Others want to try something else. Brian and I are glad to have the summer off to rest and re-coop before the next season begins.

Some warm ups
some games
some games in the rain

looking forward to the next season.....Jenn

Busy Beavers

I now understand the term "busy beavers" I thought we were busy before, I had no idea what busy was until we threw in building a new chicken coop. Glad we are almost done with our big project. It has been a rewarding experience for us and the children. We have mastered "team work", teaching safe handling of power tools, and shown the children that even when building something math is important.

Grand-daddy drove the big tractor down to dig holes for the posts. Here we have the cedar posts set and tamped.

Building the nesting boxes

The hen house......

We are almost done and looking forward to getting our new hens.

Socks

It seems as though I just can not get any time to sit and just write anymore. I find myself asking what happened? where did all of my time go? After today, I think I spend it with socks. Picking them up, playing hide and seek with them, washing them, drying them, and trying to find their mate!

This morning began with a lovely breakfast in bed thanks to my wonderful husband. We got moving and as I began my day it quickly was consumed with socks. As I walk to the kitchen to take my dishes I see socks....in the hallway, in the chair, under the end table, over there in the corner, on the fireplace.....let me put it this way, the only place free of socks was the ceiling fan! I put my dishes in the sink and as I pick up socks I am noticing socks on the shelf under the end table and in the couch cushions and under the recliner and I am thinking back to a fiend's post on Facebook and knowing that I am not the only one I decide why not.....next blog.....SOCKS!

This is Tiffany's mismatched sock pile she has 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls.......

This is our mismatched sock bucket......our bucket was made up from 4 boys and 4 girls......

I appreciate the fact that "its trendy" to wear mismatched socks these days and that would probably save some people a lot of money but it creates chaos in a person with OCD.

When my mom comes to visit she wants so much to "help out" how ever she can. I came home from work one day and there was my empty sock bucket in the laundry room. Mom was so proud she managed to match every single sock. I had no idea how she did it until I pulled a pair of socks from my dresser the next day, I should have known better......

Although these socks are black one of them is mine and the other my daughters which means my circulation was being cut off.

Mom is no longer allowed near my sock bucket, I hide it every year and faithfully, she asks for it every year, I very politely tell her they have all been matched. So she moves onto ironing all of our underwear in perfect squares because they fit better in the drawers that way.

I spend much of my day starting one task and as I am working on that task I switch gears and begin another task, the end of the day I am exhausted and looking around I'm wondering what I did all day. Now I know, I am picking up socks as the sock bunny hides them. One day I will find all the matches and until then my family has taught me that it's not the fault of the dryer that all of our socks are mismatched, not the dryers fault at all, its the kids fault!

Until next time.......Jenn

BUSY BUSY BUSY

It has been a busy couple of weeks for us, who am I kidding? We stay busy but the last couple of weeks have been very busy with deadlines, yearly appointments, things at school etc... etc... etc.....I was awakened this morning by 2 simultaneous text messages from my mom at 7:23 am my time, my mom lives in PEI, Canada one hour ahead of us. She was letting me know she cant believe she slept that long, I was wishing I was still sleeping! Meanwhile I am trying to remember how I got in bed last night I was so tired from the days events. Wednesday and Thursday just sort of ran together, Brian had a tooth ache I picked up his kids from school he asked I join him at the dentist with the kids so I did, he went home with one child and I took the other three to Savannah's dance class and the running did not cease for me until bedtime. Thursday Brian took the kids to school came home and went back to bed, my alarm went off to take Logan to Grandma's house so I can head to town and see Emily's project celebration....
I left the project celebration to head and get Brian's kids from school and take them to the dentist for 11:30. All 4 got their teeth cleaned. 2 kids needed extractions and fillings and the dentist conveniently had available time slots that afternoon at 2pm......we left dentist office at 5pm. Stopped to pick up pizza and medication then came home, Brian got home from work and I went out to pick up Logan from Grandma's at some point I got in the bed and went to sleep.

Today is Friday the 13th. My grandmother was a very superstitious lady. Today I set my superstitions aside and welcome the fact that I do not need to go anywhere or do anything until 2 pm when I have to head to town for carline at school and come home to cook tacos for what will be 8 starving kids. A day for me with little to do, its almost like a holiday!

Daddy's little Princess

Savannah always wanted to take part in dance classes and when she batted her pretty blue eyes at her daddy (I taught her that) she got just what she wanted!

Doesn't she look just beautiful????

Tonight was the first night and she absolutely loved it! I guess she will need to keep batting her eyes....

There is just something that happens to Daddy's when they have a little girl, they turn to mush when their little princess says but pleeeeeese daddy with her head tilted to the side and their little eyelashes fluttering!

Snow Flakes

Last week our children went to school Monday morning. It was not long and the news began listing school districts that were letting out early. The kids did not return to school last week, yesterday was their first day back, parents and kids were both just has happy.

This morning I packed up the kids and waited until the last moment to wake Logan up because slowly school districts were delaying the start of school or closing schools all together. Our school did not make the list and after several failed attempts at calling the school I woke Logan up and we began our journey to town.

About half way there I called the school again and found out that we were delayed 2 hours. We went on our way and got the oil changed instead, while getting the oil changed we got the news that school would not open today.

We headed to Walmart for soccer equipment and when we left the store the snowflakes were big and beautiful I wish I had my good camera to capture these flakes.

Makayla says "look mommy they look like real snowflakes like on TV!" Maybe because they are real snowflakes Makayla.....

House Bound Banana Bread

The kids and I have been house bound for two and a half days solid now due to snow and ice and warnings to stay off the roads! Kids have not been at school its getting to be like a boring summer break with no summer camps or anything to do!

I managed to hide some bananas from the kids.....yes I have to hide them! Can you imagine hiding fruit from your kids? I had to hide them so I can make banana bread.....I was ever so excited with the success of my hide.....

Today was a prime time to make the bread.....
and after 40 minutes at 350 degrees.......
It was wonderful! Hubby will be delighted when he gets home!
